"As I stepped into the coal mine, I couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions - fascination & respect. Our host, whose grandfather had worked at the mine, took us on a journey sharing stories of the harsh conditions and incredible hard work that goes into extracting the coal. What struck me most was the sheer physicality of the work. The narrow tunnels, the darkness, the dust, and the noise all combined to create an environment that's both challenging and unforgiving. Our host spoke of the long hours, the physical toll, and the mental strain that miners face every day. Despite the hardships, there was a sense of pride and camaraderie among the miners. They work together as a tight-knit team, relying on each other for support and safety. Our host's passion and enthusiasm for the work were infectious, and I found myself developing a deeper appreciation for the men and women who work in these conditions. I intend to go back to look at the old buildings on the site and enjoy another coffee and lunch at the cafe. Highly recommend for the whole family.

Wonderful staff. Great amenities. Can sit in courtyard with dog. Food is lovely. Especially vegan gluten free lemon cake. I regularly visit and take a walk with dog. Peaceful and pretty.

A bright spacious casual cafe. A variety of hot food with breakfast style menu is available. Kids menu also available. Tea and coffee, cakes, cookies, sandwiches also sold here. There are about two dozen four seater tables both inside and outside. Friendly staff. Toilets are to the right before the entrance to the cafe. The mine tour check in desk is to the left after you enter. A theatrette is just past that. Easy parking nearby.
